My experience in the Journey in Literature course
As stated before, at first, the course had me questioning my decisions. I was very skeptical on my first day of class since the feel, the atmosphere, and the curriculum seemed very similar to my high school English classes. My high school experience was one I hope I would never relive. But this was the complete opposite. The Journey in Literature course felt dynamic and inclusive. I never got bored because there was almost always something different to do. I interacted with my group one day, while the next we discussed personal experiences reading our essays. This was no ordinary literature class, it was highly engaging, and getting to know other people's perspectives everytime we read our essays is something not many professors encourage. One important lesson that stuck with me was that everyone has their own journey. Not only that, but everyone can live in complete harmony and enjoy our time as classmates despite everyone being so unique and different. I can't say I agreed with everyone's perspectives, ideologies, or even actions in that room, yet, that all went away for a couple of hours, as everyone felt at peace. We didn't exactly read much, but the topics we read about were travel literature, a genre I barely knew existed. Jamaica Kincaid's narrations resonated a lot with me, since a much of her experiences as a minority I feel as a Puerto Rican whenever I travel to other countries. Discussing our different interpretations of "home" and "identity" was very eye opening; there were a lot of viewpoints I had yet to even consider. I can't say I regret making the decision of staying in this course despite my suspicions and doubts because I feel like in the end, it paid off. I had fun, I enjoyed my assignments, and the people I met I'll never forget.
HIIIII! As I read your post, I relieved all those times where we sat in a circle and talked about our experience in life/journey. Great post!!!!!!!!1

ResponderEliminarHello, I agree when you said "The Journey in Literature course felt dynamic and inclusive" I also liked the class. It was nice to have an open space to talk and discuss several themes specially about the journeys of each one of the classmates. Great post!
